Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 SKYROCKETS To The #1 Spot On The Steam Sales Charts!!

With less than 24 hours until the release of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, the latest title from Warhorse Studio suddenly sits at the top of the Steam sales charts. This comes after weeks of backlash from "woke" and "anti-woke" gamers alike, many of whom took issue with the studio's lack of transparency over decisions made during the development of this long-anticipated sequel to 2018's Kingdom Come: Deliverance.

Much of the conversation around this upcoming title has involved Daniel Vavra, cofounder of Warhorse and creative director behind the Kingdom Come series. Mr. Vavra has not shied away from defending the choices that were made in developing KCD2, and at times has been outright hostile with many of his critics online. To his credit, he has taken full responsibility for the decision to include a gay romance option, as well as a black NPC, in KCD2, despite many of his critics believing these decisions were forced by investors of Embracer Group.

While many people believed that retconning Henry to allow for a gay romance option would have a serious impact on the sales of the game, it doesn't seem to be having any immediate effect. The game has been inching up the top 10 on the Steam sales charts for weeks and any attempt at a boycott has proven to be less than successful. If anything, KCD2 could potentially be seeing an uptick in sales due to increased visibility, all thanks to the culture war drama that has preceded it.

We are also starting to get reviews from both large and small media outlets, as well as several YouTubers who were sent review copies weeks in advance. While it is fair to remain skeptical of critic reviews, all signs are pointing in the right direction for fans of the series, as the metacritic score currently sits at 87. Daniel Vavra also took shots at Eurogamer for giving his upcoming title a 60/100, while previously refusing to give KCD a score due to his public support of Gamergate.

While there will still be a large portion of gamers who are hesitant to trust Warhorse Studio, it would seem that the majority of people who have played this game are giving it high marks for improving on the things that made the first game great. Whether the game is "woke" or not will be decided by your own interpretation of what makes a game "woke." At the end of the day, KCD2 could be shaping up to be not just GOTY, but one of the greatest RPGs of 2025 and beyond.
