The Godot game engine controversy that began this weekend on social media is now in full-scale meltdown, as the open-source engine's community manager continues to block dozens of Twitter users for criticizing their blatantly divisive post. On September 27th, the Twitter/X account for Godot tweeted out, "Apparently game engines are woke now? Well then, we won't complain. Show us your #Wokot games below."
This thinly-veiled attempt to stir up controversy proved to be more than effective, as dozens of large and small accounts reacted quite negatively to this obvious virtue signal to the "anti-gamergate" crowd. Several people in support of Godot's post have even gone so far as to say that they want Godot to "weed these people out" and "cleanse their community" of them.
Normal replies: Devs sharing their projects and praising Godot

Hidden replies: People ranting because Godot support Queer people, almost no devs
I love the Godot community so much for weeding out those people ❤️
To make matters worse, a certain individual at Godot is going so far as to ban users from accessing their Github page. Remi Verschelde, who is the project manager at Godot, has admitted via Twitter that he has personally blocked several people for "harassing contributors." What's more concerning is that Remi gave no examples of the behavior that warranted a permanent ban from Godot's Github page.
Just to set this straight, as the (only) person who posted about being banned conveniently omitted to share the GitHub issue that got them banned:https://t.co/r9LyGDkXFD

It is also worth pointing out that it would seem that Remi may have had a hand in writing the current Code of Conduct for Godot. The CoC, which was updated back in 2019, seems to be massively open for misinterpretation. Given as we have already seen many examples in the recent past of people being banned or restricted across a wide array of forums and social media sites for espousing their personal beliefs, rather than for actual violations of terms of service, it is likely that Godot's CoC was penned for this express purpose.
We're happy to introduce the Code of Conduct that will now apply to all #GodotEngine community platforms, for users and contributors alike.

We've been blessed with a well-behaved community so far, but it's time to write down our values and expectations.https://t.co/JGr8ctakyo
A fascinating conversation between Remi and former Godot contributor Yuri Sizov has also now been uncovered, after a Twitter user named @mahboiii tagged @Grummz in a massive post regarding who is really to blame for the ideological shift at Godot. @mahboiii indicates in his post that Remi Verschelde, not Godot founder Juan Linietsky, is the primary reason that the company has taken such a hardline shift toward radical left politics. It's worth mentioning that Mr. Linietsky has done his best to remain apolitical, going so far as to put his Twitter/X account into protected mode to avoid the current controversy.
Hey @Grummz , not sure where to put this where you'll read it. If anyone knows how to get him to read that, plz retweet or PM him so he gets this info.

I've been following Godot for a long time, both on Twitter and their blogposts.
I'd like to give a rundown of things the way I…
What's more fascinating is that after Yuri Sizov was fired from Godot back in January due to alleged anti-Russian sentiment at the company, Yuri and Remi engaged in a back and forth on Twitter in March, taking up opposite sides in the culture war surrounding the topic of Sweet Baby Inc. Yuri felt that it was unfair to put the blame solely on the backs of gamers, as SBI actively tried to take down the Sweet Baby Inc Detected Steam curator page, despite the fact that nobody connected to the page had attacked or harassed any member of SBI.
Interestingly, after Yuri was allegedly fired from Godot back in January, he had an interaction with Rémi regarding SBI/Gamergate in March. Despite Yuri doubling down on agreeing with mainstream narratives, he seemed to take the side of gamers against Sweet Baby Inc at the time. pic.twitter.com/2qTOBrHNCm

Yuri has since made it clear that he despises @Grummz and anyone who has deemed Godot as "woke," but this may be nothing more than his attempt at staying in the good graces of the Alphabet Mafia on Twitter. Only time will tell if Godot can survive this current culture war that they have involved themselves in by choosing to ally with the unhinged political activists who have an absolute stranglehold on much of the gaming industry.
